New Legislation Bans Sales of Drugs with THC-A Levels Above 0.3%
(NASHVILLE, TN) – Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM) President Dr. Kevin Sabet, a former three-time White House drug policy advisor, released the following statement today applauding Governor Bill Lee’s signing of HB1376, which severely restricts the addiction industry’s ability to sell dangerous, psychoactive hemp-derived cannabinoid products in the state:
“Since Congress inadvertently legalized hemp-derived THC drugs in the 2018 Farm Bill, the addiction industry has been preying on Americans with dangerous, psychoactive drugs in gas stations, malls, and convenience stores. People across Tennessee have seen the devastating results, especially for young people. Thankfully, Governor Lee, Representative Lamberth, Senator Briggs, and the members of the Legislature have advanced crucial legislation that will limit sales of hemp-derived drugs and enact strict regulations on those peddling these poisons.
“According to the FDA, Delta-8 THC use is known to be addictive and cause hallucinations, vomiting, tremors, anxiety, dizziness, confusion, and loss of consciousness. Despite these dangers, many parents aren’t fully aware of the risks because of the industry’s aggressive misinformation campaign. While this is a great first step, we encourage lawmakers at all levels of government to continue advancing legislation that would fully ban these dangerous drugs.”
