Residents Saw Through Pot Profiteers’ Bid to Inject More Drugs into Communities
(PIERRE, SD) – Dr. Kevin Sabet, President of Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM), released the following statement today commending South Dakotans for wisely rejecting Measure 29, which would have legalized so-called ‘recreational’ marijuana in the state:
“South Dakotans have wisely said ‘no’ to Big Marijuana because they know that despite the industry’s misinformation and clever marketing, injecting more drugs into their communities would be a disaster for public health and safety. Today, voters sent a clear message that put health, science, and common-sense before an industry that’s looking to hook a new generation of drug users on increasingly potent marijuana and THC drug products.
“This victory is the result of the hard work of so many South Dakotans dedicated to better health and public safety for their communities, particularly our young people. I want to acknowledge and thank the many doctors, faith leaders, law enforcement groups, parents, and public health officials who had the courage to stand up to this predatory industry and express their opposition to legalization.”
