About Policy Solutions Lab (PSL):

PSL is a public policy consulting firm which focuses primarily on illicit drug policy in the United States. PSL’s clients include nation-wide anti-drug coalitions, United Nations agencies and other international organizations, and government agencies.

Project SAM (www.learnaboutsam.org) is a nonpartisan coalition of public health experts. Its board members include members of almost every major medical organization in the country. SAM’s proposed policy rejects dichotomies such as “incarceration versus legalization.” It seeks a middleground policy which neither supports sending marijuana users to prison for low levels of use, but seeks to prevent the emergence of a Big Marijuana commercial industry.

Position Summary:
PSL is seeking a quali ed applicant for the position of Fellow and Special Assistant. The applicant may work from essentially anywhere in the US or Canada, but a northeastern time schedule is preferred. This position provides exposure to public health and criminal justice-related policy-making in the United States. The applicant will work directly with prominent SAM board members.

Responsibilities:

Drafting, reviewing and editing of various documents such as expert testimonies for submission to Congress, policy papers, academic articles, and fact sheets.

Basic data analysis related to substance abuse in the United States.

Analysis and summary of federal and state reports on drug policy.

Media management: coordinating and responding to interview requests and media calls, writing of press releases, interaction with the media on behalf of Project SAM.

Creation of infographics and PowerPoint presentations related to various aspects of substance abuse policy.

Management and updating of SAM’s website, management of social media including Twitter and Facebook.

Clerical duties such as data entry, note taking, schedule management, and etc.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, economics or related eld.

Prior knowledge of drug and marijuana policy in the United States preferred.

Excellent writing skills.

Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in work.

Excellent oral and communication skills.

Strong organization skills.

Microsoft Office (extensive knowledge of Excel necessary).
