[Alexandria, VA, May 23, 2017] –  Today, Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM) issued the following statement from SAM President Dr. Kevin Sabet in response to the Trump administration’s budget proposal:

“We are relieved that this administration listened to the voices of public health and safety experts and backed away from a previous proposal to gut funding for vital drug programs. Still, at a time when the opioid crisis is killing more Americans than car crashes and guns, now is not the time to make even minor cuts for programs that reduce drug use and its consequences in America. This is a rare area of bipartisan agreement in Washington, and we will continue to work with our partners and Members of Congress to reverse the cuts proposed in this budget to appropriately fund drug control programs.”
