Deputy Director, Federal and State Affairs

 

A position dependent on year-to-year funding

Full time (40 hours per week)

Or Part Time (20-30 hours/week)

Starting salary range: Range, up to $50,000

Location: Home Office, in Washington DC

SUMMARY

  • This announcement is for a full or part time deputy director position
  • This position may include but are not limited to the following: interaction with federal and state official, writing, public affairs, speaking, infographics creation, assisting with administrative tasks.
  • The position holder will explain policies, answer questions, and independently resolve problems whenever feasible.
  • This is an at-will position with SAM and dependent upon year-to-year funding.
  • The position holder must pass a background check, which may include drug testing.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE

  • Direct responsibility to SAM President
  • Interaction with Federal and State officials on policy matters of pressing concerns to SAM
  • Selects, organizes and presents information and writes analytic reports, informational materials, op-eds and presentations for SAM that are widely disseminated written communication matters.
  • Probes and analyzes information collected from a wide variety of sources to determine the nature and scope of the issues, interprets this material and develops policy options and media approaches for consideration by SAM.
  • Ensures consistency with SAM’s policies and objectives. Monitors the progress of a variety of public policy issues affecting SAM and its operations.
  • Provides complete analysis relating to propose public information initiatives, conducts background research, develops general plans, and prepares position papers.
  • Occasional public speaking.
  • Assists in the planning of media campaigns, programs, releases, and develops information to effectively respond to problems of national scope. Ensures the objectives, views and plans of SAM are conveyed to the public.
  • Infographic and advanced PPT skills a plus.
  • Provides responsive, high quality service to employees, representatives of participating agencies by providing accurate, compete and up-to-date information, in a courteous, efficient and timely manner.
  • Prepares documentation for annual reports.

  • Additional responsibilities include any duties that assist SAM in achieving its operational goals.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Qualifiers must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university. Masters or PhD preferred.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid state driver’s license

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is primarily sedentary. It may involve some driving, walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as files or office supplies. The work is performed in a normal, smoke-free office setting where basic safety precautions are required.
