Idaho Senate committee makes smart move

We at Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM) commend the Idaho Senate State Affairs Committee for sending two anti-marijuana resolutions to the full state Senate with “do-pass recommendations.”

The first resolution expresses the Idaho legislature’s opposition to any attempt to legalize marijuana in the state. You can read it here. To support its rejection of marijuana legalization, the resolution states, in part, that the THC content of marijuana has risen dramatically in the last 30 years, that 1 in 6 teenagers who try the drug will become addicted to it, that marijuana use harms brain development and that drug-legalization efforts in other states have led to social and economic chaos and programs rife with fraud and abuse.

The second resolution calls on the Obama administration to enforce federal laws uniformly in all states. You can read that resolution here.

The resolutions will be sent to the full state legislature, and we will update you about that process. In the meantime, SAM encourages you to send letters of support to Idaho legislators, encouraging them to stand firm against marijuana legalization and to develop wise policies that address problems caused by its use.

SAM, joined by other national and state organizations, has written its own letter, urging U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to enforce the U.S. Controlled Substances Act.
